Our Name and Philosophy

“XY” suggests unknowns or variables, and we like the idea of a name that is full of possibilities—just like our lives.

Many of us have heard the phrase “make something of yourself,” encouraging or even exhorting us to be more than we are. In crafting, we take this as a creative challenge: when you make something with your hands, it comes from you. It’s something of yourself.

We hope XY can be a corner for creativity when you need some crafting ideas or would like to explore something new in your life. Let’s stay curious and make something.

We invite you to take creative breaks to make something with your hands and take pleasure in each small step of the creative process. Why did I start
XY Craft Studio?

My name is Nora, and I started XY Craft Studio in the summer of 2022. When I picked up crochet several years ago, I didn’t envision it as a potential business. To be honest, I was just looking for a relaxing distraction from uncertainties in my life at that time.

As my experimenting took me from making simple granny squares to increasingly ambitious flower blossoms (that orchid pattern will make it to the website one day!), I found calm from making one stitch after another and felt a sense of achievement whenever I made something new.

This is a process I hope more people can experience and benefit from. How great to see that you can change formless yarn into decorative and functional pieces!

Wanting to share that delightful, almost meditative experience with others, I began to write down my crochet patterns, starting with the sun-themed coasters and pumpkins that would soon launch XY Craft Studio.

And just as every finished piece grows stitch by stitch, I am developing XY Craft Studio step by step. Crochet projects are the starting point and heart, though we are starting to include other crafts such as embroidery, and I am working to bring you more fun projects beyond yarn and thread soon.
